When news first leaked of a sequel to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation album Cruel Summer, bloggers and music fans instantly went into overdrive with speculation. Would the new album include the official debut of ‘90s hip-hop deity Q-Tip? Can West deliver another across-the-board anthem like the 2 Chainz, Pusha T, and Big Sean featured “Mercy”?
A new trailer for the upcoming set being billed as Cruel Winter has been released to the Internet and adds more questions than answers. The clip shows desolate, grainy footage of what looks to be a sparse forest area backed by the chilling voice ove.
“We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order…A world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations…”
The intriguing trailer first made its debut on director Austin Christianson’s site as well as YouTube and Vimeo. While West has yet to make a public statement on the Cruel Winter visuals, the news seems well timed. In late September, both Q-Tip and Pusha T dropped a sly hint at a Cruel Summer follow-up.
“If there’s a Cruel Summer, then there’s got to be a Cruel Winter right?” said the former A Tribe Called Quest frontman. Check out the trailer below. —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
