Times have certainly changed. MTV used to be bay far the #1 destination for anyone looking to watch music videos. Now if you ever want to watch your favorite artists’ videos all you need to do is hop on Youtube and watch them – whenever you want.
MTV’s head of programming “Michael Destiny” has an amusing answer for one person who asks why MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore, and the reason is a wake-up call for Generation Y-ers – it’s them! Music piracy, Youtube and social media have completely changed how music is marketed these days – and rendered videos practically worthless in the process.
At least it hasn’t stopped artists from making them – but not without blatant product placement. And if you’re born before 1995, it’s your fault! Well at least we still play music here at AMP…
