Loren’s Badass Chick: Erika Whyte

This week’s Badass Chick is Saugus native Erika Whyte, the woman in charge of a great fundraising event called Wilderness Heals. Wilderness Heals is a 3-day, all-female hike which raises money for the Elizabeth Stone House, a women’s shelter in Boston.

Erika is a part-time employee of ESH whose job is to coordinate the entire Wilderness Heals weekend. Though it’s supposed to be an 8-month position, Erika works year-round to execute such a phenomenal event. Not only that, but Erika has a full time job at a small biotech in Cambridge, and she is a mom of three! So yeah, Erika’s pretty busy.

Erica grew up in a household surrounded by emotional and physical abuse, and she vowed to break that cycle when she grew up. Now, she spends her days helping women and children at ESH as a way to give back. I love this about her. With her supervision over the last five years, ESH has more than doubled their fundraising profits; last year they raised over $200,000. How phenomenal!

What makes Erika such a Badass Chick is that she refused to let her negative environment turn her into a victim, and she is taking steps to ensure other women aren’t mistreated, either. Erika, you are my Badass Chick of the Week!

The Wilderness Heals hike is taking place next month and if you’d like to learn more about it or donate to the cause, please click here.
