5 Creative Ways To Drink This Summer

by Sabrina Boyd (@SabrinaKayaB)

In the summer, no one can resist a nice cocktail by the pool or on the beach. Yes, a cold beer on a hot day is nice, but every now and then, it’s good to mix it up, especially if you’re hosting a party or cook-out. With the 4th of July coming up, we’ve got your trick to throwing the best party ever: creative ways to consume alcohol.

You don’t have to be a professional bartender to make delicious and fancy-looking drinks, or other things with alcohol in them. Try out these recipes and your friends will think you took a bartending course – you don’t have to tell them you got it from us! Just as long as you let us try a sip (or a bite).

With the 4th of July in mind, here are 5 creative ways to mix up your summer “drinks,” and some ways to make them extra patriotic this weekend:

1. Boozesicles

There are frozen drinks, and then there’s truly freezing your alcohol (and yes, it can be done!). Remember how great popsicles were in your childhood summers? Remember those red, white, and blue firecracker popsicles? Bring that back with this “adult” version: Red, White, & Blueberry Cheesecake Popsicles.

2. Lay On The Layers

A vital, yet simple lesson in making drinks look fancy, this applies to both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Learn how to layer your drinks, and add your own kick as you please, or make it a soft drink for the family!

3. Are You Jell-in?

Jell-O shots are a classic twist on drinking. They’re highly addictive, and highly alcoholic, so be careful with these! Find a classic recipe that mixes vodka, water, and Jell-O packets, or show your American pride with these Firecracker Jell-O shots in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties.

4. Add Fresh Fruit

We don’t just mean garnish your cocktails with a cherry. Maybe we should re-phrase: add some alcohol to your fresh fruit. Get your daily serving of nutrients and get a buzz at the same time! You’ve heard of the vodka melon? Well here’s another variety, which blends perfectly on your buffet table as a fruit salad: Drunken Melon Balls.

5. Bake Your Booze

Tiramisu, rum cake…putting alcohol in baked goods is a long standing tradition. And there are plenty of summer cakes and tarts that could use a little extra kick. Here are a few to get you started: 4th of July Booze Cakes.
