This week’s Badass Chicks absolutely blow me away, and I can’t wait to share them with you! It’s a group of four Scituate High School sophomores: Lily Genduso, Nicole Finnerty, Alex Zilonis and Natalie Greenbaum. Together, they make up Brighten the Fight. They arrange free photo sessions for children battling cancer and their families.
While taking a Community Service Learning class at school, the girls got together for a class project and quickly were on a mission: they wanted to brighten the lives of pediatric cancer fighters. But, instead of buying gifts or raising money, they decided to do things a little differently. Knowing full well how much kids their age love taking pictures and selfies, they thought that being able to capture a moment in time for a pediatric cancer patient and his or her family would be an excellent, ever-lasting gift.
So, with the help of their teacher, the girls reached out to local photographers and asked them if they’d be willing to donate time doing photo shoots with patients and their families. Four women said yes, and the Brighten the Fight ladies were off to a great start. They then used social media and support groups to track down pediatric cancer fighters. So far, they’ve provided photo shoot sessions for three families, and a fourth will be getting their pictures taken in January.
These girls are so special; they found a way to bring positivity to families and children undergoing a tremendously painful experience. They thought outside the box, discovered a great way to give back to the community, and are fully committed to providing more families this opportunity in the future. Brighten the Fight are my Badass Chicks of the Week!
