This week’s Badass Chicks are Judi Walk & Elizabeth Orgel, members of the Board of Directors for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation in New England. Both Elizabeth and Judi are incredibly passionate and working tirelessly to find a cure for the disease.
Six years ago, Elizabeth’s son was diagnosed with Colitis at the age of 6 and two years ago, her older son was diagnosed with Chron’s at the age of 16. Seeing the physical, emotional and social effects of the disease on both of her sons, Elizabeth has poured her extra time into fundraising efforts for the cause.
Judi herself was diagnosed with Crohn’s 30 years ago – after having been told by doctors that she was just nervous and that’s what was causing her upset stomach – and found herself incredibly curious about the disease once diagnosed. She asked her doctor what she could do to learn more, and his answer was simple: get involved. So, she did! Since then, she’s been volunteering and fundraising so that children don’t have a future like she had a history.
Judi is co-hosting the Fete of Food and Wine fundraiser next Friday at the Four Seasons, which is a huge event that Elizabeth and the fundraising team helps to organize. This year, Matt Light – who has had Crohn’s disease since 2001 – will be honored, along with Dr. Adam Cheifetz.
I love that these women have dedicated their lives to finding a cure for the disease!
