This week’s Badass Chick is Katie Dillaway Huber, President of the Penn State Alumni Association Greater Boston. She’s fundraising for THON, a 46-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon benefitting pediatric cancer.
I’m a Penn Stater so I admit that I’m partial to the cause, but honestly, THON is a pretty amazing event. Students spend all year raising money for the Four Diamonds Fund, which provides money to families battling pediatric cancer and funds research of the cause as well. It culminates in February’s dance marathon, where students are awake and standing for 46 hours straight. This year’s THON kicks off next weekend.
When Katie was a freshman, she got involved with THON through a club on campus and became particularly hooked on fundraising once her club “adopted” a family (each club sponsors a family battling pediatric cancer). After graduation, she moved to Boston and continued her involvement in THON through her position within the local alumni association. She, her fellow board members and local alumni help contribute to THON’s beyond-impressive yearly total: last year alone, THON raised over $13 MILLION dollars. It gets bigger and better every year.
They’re hosting a trivia event tomorrow at the Greatest Bar at 5p where 100% of the proceeds will go to THON, so if you’re into trivia (it’s general knowledge), please by all means show up for a fun night for a fantastic cause!
