This week’s Badass Chick is Erica Keefe, executive chef of 5 Horses Tavern in the South End who worked her way all the way to the top.
After studying Spanish in college, Erica got a job working in accounting for a construction company. After a while, she got really bored by her 9-5 job and decided that she needed a change. So, she went back to school and focused on what she used to love most as a little kid: cooking Sunday dinner with her family. Erica began a grueling, years-long schedule of working her butt off: holding down her 9-5 job during the day, then attending culinary school at night from 7-10:30. And that schedule was just the beginning.
To complete her education, Erica needed an externship so she began to working weekends, too. There was actually a point in time where Erica was working her full-time job, going to school at night and then working full double shifts on both Saturdays and Sundays. But, her crazy schedule and hard work paid off. The restaurant she was working for, 5 Horses Tavern, took notice of her incredible talent and work ethic and offered her a full-time job. Erica worked her way up from extern to head chef in just four years, and she’s thriving at her South End location (they even started a Monday Night Pancake Dinner – hell yeah!).
Erica is the perfect example of making a change to better your life and working your ass off to achieve a dream! For that, she is my Badass Chick of the Week!
