When JoJo Was 18, Her Company Made Her Inject Herself to Get Skinny

by Alisha Jackson

JoJo should have told her label to LEAVE and get out right now when they told her to lose weight at the age of 18, but unfortunately she gave in to their demands, and ended up injecting herself to get skinny.

Up until the age of 17, JoJo’s mom managed her, who apparently kept any sort of comments about her appearance from her label out of the local pop star’s sacred childhood bubble. But once JoJo broke ties with her momager, the requests came flooding in. “My mom really kept me in a bubble,” JoJo said. “If people had an opinion about me, and they were coming to her with it, like ‘we want her to look this way’ or ‘we want her to lose weight’ or anything, she never let me know about it.”

Unfortunately, after JoJo’s mom took on the full time job of being her mother, the singer started hearing her company’s requests. “Here’s something that I agreed to do that ended up messing with me psychologically,” JoJo said. “I was under a lot of pressure with a company I was at previously and they wanted me to lose weight fast. So they got me with a nutritionist and had me, like, on all these supplements, and I was injecting myself — this is a common thing ‘the girls’ do all the way — it makes your body only need certain calories, so I ate 500 calories a day. It was the most unhealthy thing I’ve ever done. And then I gained all the weight back. I felt terrible about myself and I was upset that I even subscribed to the standard that they wanted me to be at.”
