This week’s Badass Chick is Harvard alumna Bernadette Lim, creator of both the 2015 Report on the Status of Women and Girls in Boston and Women Speak.
Her first year at Harvard, she was asked to find a social issue facing women and girls in Boston and try to solve it. While researching, Bernadette realized that there wasn’t a comprehensive report on us ladies, so she and 20 other students went to work. They began compiling statistics and information that would allow nonprofits and government groups to properly fund particular programs affecting women in Boston.
During the years that she was researching, Bernadette and her friends from home also created their very own women’s networking group, Women Speak, in which college women mentor high school girls. What started as one group on one college campus has now grown to over 20 college campuses nationwide and allows for women to come together and encourage one another to succeed.
Bernadette firmly believes that emotional health is just as important as physical health, and plans to use her backgrounds in Human Evolutionary Biology and Women’s Studies to become the first Asian American Woman Surgeon General. I like the sound of that – very badass to me!
