Zara Larsson On Being In The Limelight: “Swedes Don’t Really Care About Famous People”

Zara Larsson played our exclusive AMP Live event at VENU nightclub in Boston last night, but before the up and coming Swedish sensation took the stage, she took a few minutes to talk with #AfternoonAntics host Vanessa Hale backstage.

Zara has been singing professionally since she was 10 years old, winning a national singing competition in Sweden 8 years ago, which launched her career across the Atlantic.

“When I was 10 back then, it wasn’t really like I was super famous, I’m from Sweden, it’s a small country,” she told Vanessa. “Swedes in general don’t really care about famous people. We don’t have paparazzi at all. People in my school thought it was cool!”

The 18-year-old Larsson released her first EP at the age of 15 in Sweden and is now making her way to the United States.

“It was really like a dream coming true,” said Larsson. “I’ve been working for a long time back in Europe and Sweden. It’s kind of like starting over. I like that feeling, because it’s familiar, I know what’s coming. It humbles you a lot.”

Fresh off the MTV VMAs this past weekend, the Lush Life singer is already working on a new single that is coming “very, very soon.”

She remains very tight-lipped about the details surrounding the new single and album.

“I really want to tell you, but it’s coming very soon,” she laughed. “It’s super exciting! I’m releasing my album soon. Everything’s done, it’s finished, it’s just waiting to be released.”
