This week’s Badass Chick is Mily Cruz, a crusader for the Latino Diabetes Initiative.
Mily is pretty impressive… not only does she own her own consulting firm which helps people get legal services at lower/fairer costs, but she spends much of her free time helping other people. She volunteers with places like the Children’s Hospital, Big Brother Big Sister and also the Joslin Diabetes Center.
Next week, she and her fellow committee members are putting on their fifth annual Ritmos de Salud, or “Rhythms of Health.” It’ll feature amazing food from over 10 restaurants and also lots of dancing, to promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Diabetes is a cause very close to Mily’s heart; her grandma and father both had diabetes. She is on a mission to ensure that other Latinos are well-informed.
What I love about Mily is that she simply makes friends and uses her network to get people to support her cause; she tells 10 close friends about whatever it is that she’s fundraising/donating her time to, and asks each of them to tell 10 of their friends. She simply uses her time to do good things, and makes friends along the way, and expands her network in an effort to benefit others.
