As the child of two engineers, it’s no surprise that Pooja was interested in the STEM field from an early age. Noticing that most of the people in her class were boys, in her sophomore year of high school she created ProjectCSGIRLS, a youth-driven nonprofit closing the tech gender gap through workshops and a national computer science competition for middle school girls. When ProjectCSGIRLS first began, 100 girls participated and now it has grown into national competition with over 1800 participants. If you or a middle school girl you know would be interested in participating in the national contest this year, enrollment is now open!
Pooja is attending college at Harvard (though she had her pick of the litter – she was accepted into every single Ivy League college!!!), has given two TEDx talks, was featured on HerCampus.com and also travels the country to spread her message. She is incredible.
I love the fact that Pooja is making it easier for girls to explore the STEM field and break down those gender barriers – she is most definitely a Badass Chick!
