Oscars Highlights
There were plenty of Oscars highlights last night besides the end-of-the night mix-up between La La Land and the real best picture winner, Moonlight. Justin Timberlake opened the show. About 7 minutes before that, he was spotted photo-bombing Emma Stone on the red carpet, who went on to receive her first Oscar, for her lead actress role in La La Land. Casey Affleck won for best actor in Manchester by the Sea‚Ķ Mahershala Ali nabbed himself his first Oscar for Moonlight, and Viola Davis gave a moving and tearful speech, thanking her parents for her best supporting actress Oscar – her first ever. Bill Paxton’s death earlier in the day didn’t make it into the in memoriam montage, but Jennifer Aniston teared up and paid tribute to him when she introduced the segment. Sting performed “The Empty Chair,” simply standing on stage with just his guitar, which paid tribute to James Foley, the New Hampshire photojournalist killed by ISIS in 20104 – the song was nominated for best original song but lost to La La Land’s City of Stars.
