By Rami Abou-Sabe

The highly anticipated collaboration between classical crossover group Clean Bandit and Swedish pop star Zara Larsson dropped last night.

Clean Bandit made their U.S. breakthrough with “Rather Be.” The classically-inspired hit single utilized analog instrumentation when digital ruled the airwaves. “Symphony” continues on that same trajectory – delicate piano melodies and orchestral flourishes fill out the sonic landscape, while the chorus serves as a euphoric dance anthem led by Larsson’s impassioned vocals.

The song is nuanced and refined, with multiple sections of varying pace and feeling – it requires active listening, a trait wholly absent from the majority of pop music. A work of art itself, the accompanying video is a moving tribute to lost love. Larsson’s full album, So Good, was released this morning (Mar. 17).

Zara Larsson will be opening for Clean Bandit at the Paradise Rock Club on April 26th.
