This week’s Badass Chick is Sarah Gaines, the 23-year-old creator of FitU which is dedicated to keeping students healthy.
During college, Sarah got into fitness and body building and really started focusing on taking care of her body. She began blogging her experience and creating cookbooks for dorm room living and focusing her time and energy on staying fit. She realized that the only health & fitness clubs available at Northeastern were clubs for running or a particular type of exercise – not necessarily clubs dedicated to overall health. So with her blog catching on, Sarah created FitU, a place for students to not only work out together but share their healthy lifestyle tips.
Now it has blossomed into not only a great community for like-minded, health-conscious students, but has also turned into a marketing outlet that connects amazing brands like Clifbar, for example, to students. Sarah now has chapters or brand ambassadors all across the country, and students contributing to the web site by creating their own content abiding by one simple rule: no talk about bikini bodies or detoxes or diets… just healthy habits and exercise ideas.
I love that Sarah is focusing on what’s important: not the number on a scale or how tiny your body may look, but creating healthy habits for a strong, healthy body. She’s made a great community for people to come together and really focus on empowering one another.
