The highly-anticipated iPhone X hasn’t even hit shelves yet, and rumors are already swirling about Apple’s plans for a followup in 2020.
According to The Investor, Apple has launched a “task force” in conjunction with partnered manufacturer LG to create a foldable screen, presumably for the next iPhone.
The screen will reportedly use OLED technology, which is set to debut in the Apple lineup with the recently announced iPhone X.
The benefits of a screen with user-manipulated size is apparent; a small phone in your pocket could become an expanded tablet-sized screen in your lap with just a few flicks of the hinge.
Smartphone competitor Samsung is set to release a foldable phone next year, so it makes sense that Apple is also getting into the game, but will a foldable screen really be popular? We’ll just have to wait and see!
